equal time
Fair broadcast allocation
Equal time is the principle that broadcast media should give equivalent airtime to opposing viewpoints, particularly political candidates.
The concept emerged from U.S. broadcasting regulations requiring stations to offer comparable opportunities to competing candidates: The challenger demanded equal time to respond.
More loosely, equal time means fair representation of different perspectives in any discussion: Let's give equal time to the other side of this argument.
