entrance mat
Door-side floor covering
An entrance mat is a floor covering placed at a doorway to trap dirt and moisture from shoes before people enter a building.
Also called a doormat or welcome mat.
The term is more common in commercial contexts—offices, hotels, retail stores—where mats may be rented and regularly replaced: The cleaning service swaps out the entrance mats every week.
