enfleurage
Scent-capturing fat method
Enfleurage is a method of extracting fragrance from flowers by pressing them into layers of fat, which absorbs the essential oils over time.
The technique is labor-intensive and largely obsolete, replaced by steam distillation and chemical extraction: Traditional perfumers used enfleurage to capture the scent of jasmine.
