endemic disease
Locally persistent illness
An endemic disease is one that persists at a constant level within a particular region or population, neither dying out nor spreading explosively.
Malaria is endemic to tropical regions; the common cold is endemic nearly everywhere.
The term contrasts with epidemic (a sudden surge) and pandemic (global spread).
After the initial outbreak, COVID-19 became endemic in most countries.
