emergency sessions
Urgent unscheduled gatherings
Emergency sessions are unscheduled meetings called to address urgent matters that cannot wait for regular proceedings.
The term most often applies to legislatures convening outside their normal calendar: The governor called an emergency session to address the hurricane damage.
Courts, boards, and other deliberative bodies also hold emergency sessions when circumstances demand immediate action.
