emergency C-section
Unplanned surgical birth
An emergency C-section is an unplanned cesarean delivery performed when complications arise during labor that threaten the life or health of the mother or baby.
Unlike a scheduled C-section, it happens urgently—often within minutes of the decision: The baby's heart rate dropped and they rushed her in for an emergency C-section.
Common triggers include umbilical cord problems, placental abruption, or fetal distress.
