embroidery frames

Needlework tensioning circles

Embroidery frames are hoops or stretchers that hold fabric taut while stitching.

The most common type consists of two nested rings—the fabric is sandwiched between them and pulled tight.

Larger versions called scroll frames or stretcher bars accommodate bigger projects: She mounted the linen on an embroidery frame before starting the cross-stitch.
