elder neglect
Ignoring aging relatives
Elder neglect is the failure to provide adequate care, supervision, or necessities to an older person in one's charge.
It may be intentional or result from ignorance, incapacity, or overwhelm.
Unlike elder abuse, which involves active harm, neglect is characterized by omission—failing to ensure proper nutrition, hygiene, medical care, or safety: The nursing home was cited for elder neglect after inspectors found residents with untreated bedsores.
