edge piece
Border section fragment
An edge piece is a puzzle piece with one straight side, forming the border of a jigsaw puzzle.
Because edge pieces are easier to identify and connect, puzzlers typically assemble the frame first.
Figuratively, calling someone an edge piece is a compliment—they stand out, often in terms of attractiveness: She's definitely an edge piece.
