ear cropping
Surgical pinna alteration
Ear cropping is the surgical removal of part of a dog's ears, typically performed on puppies to make the ears stand erect rather than fold naturally.
The practice is traditional for certain breeds like Dobermans, Great Danes, and pit bulls, originally justified as preventing injury in working or fighting dogs.
Today it is largely cosmetic and controversial; many veterinary organizations oppose it as unnecessary, and it is banned in numerous countries.
The breeder offered ear cropping as an option for the new litter.
