dueling pistols
Matched ceremonial firearms
Dueling pistols are matched pairs of single-shot handguns designed for formal combat between two people settling a dispute.
They were manufactured in identical pairs to ensure neither party had an advantage, typically featuring smooth bores and hair triggers for accuracy at short range.
The practice of dueling declined in the 19th century, making the pistols largely historical artifacts and collectibles.
