dryline

Humidity gradient line

A dryline is a boundary between dry and moist air masses, typically found in the American Great Plains where dry continental air from the west meets humid air from the Gulf of Mexico.

Unlike cold fronts, drylines separate air masses of similar temperature but different humidity.

They often trigger severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in spring and summer: Storm chasers positioned themselves along the dryline, waiting for cells to develop.
