drying-up

Becoming completely parched

Drying-up is the process of becoming dry or making something dry.

In British usage, it specifically means drying dishes after washing: It's your turn to do the drying-up.

The term also describes water sources depleting or supplies diminishing: the drying-up of the river, a drying-up of funding.

When a performer forgets their lines mid-speech, that's also drying-up.
