drum shell
Hollow percussion frame
A drum shell is the cylindrical body of a drum, the hollow chamber that resonates when the drumhead is struck.
Shell material—wood, metal, acrylic—significantly affects tone and projection.
Drummers and manufacturers discuss shell construction in terms of thickness, ply count, and wood species: a six-ply maple shell, that snare has a brass shell.
