dragon ladies

Fearsome female rulers

Dragon lady is a stereotype of East Asian women as scheming, manipulative, and sexually dangerous—the femme fatale with an exotic edge.

The term gained currency from American pulp fiction and film, where Asian female villains combined seduction with cruelty.

It can also describe any domineering, ruthless woman: She runs the department like a dragon lady.

The phrase carries racist and sexist baggage, reducing women to a caricature of cold ambition.
