tiger mom
Strict achievement-focused mother
A tiger mom is a mother who pushes her children relentlessly toward academic and extracurricular achievement, often through strict discipline and high expectations.
The term emerged from Amy Chua's 2011 memoir and carries connotations of East Asian parenting styles, though it now applies broadly: Her tiger mom had her practicing violin three hours a day.
The label can be admiring or critical depending on context.
