walk-off hit

Instant victory swing

A walk-off hit is a hit that ends a baseball game by driving in the winning run for the home team in their final at-bat.

The term comes from the losing team walking off the field immediately after the play: He delivered a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth.

Walk-off can modify other game-ending plays—walk-off home run, walk-off single, walk-off grand slam.
