doomsday prophets
End-times forecasters
Doomsday prophets are people who predict catastrophic events or the end of the world.
The term usually carries skepticism—these figures warn of imminent disaster that rarely materializes: Doomsday prophets have been predicting the apocalypse for centuries.
The phrase extends to anyone who habitually forecasts worst-case scenarios: The economic doomsday prophets were wrong about inflation.
