A dog run is an enclosed outdoor area where a dog can exercise freely, typically a narrow fenced space along the side of a house or a designated section of a yard: We built a dog run so the dogs could be outside without escaping.
In some regions, a dog run also refers to a covered breezeway between two sections of a house—a passage open on both sides where a dog might lie in the shade.
