dodo birds
Gone flightless fowl
Dodo birds were large flightless birds native to Mauritius, hunted to extinction by the late 17th century.
The dodo has become the symbol of extinction itself, and dead as a dodo means utterly extinct or obsolete.
A dodo is also someone hopelessly old-fashioned or stupid: Don't be such a dodo.
