died out
Faded to nothing
Died out means became extinct or disappeared completely.
Species die out when their last members perish: Dinosaurs died out sixty-five million years ago.
The phrase also applies to customs, practices, or trends that fade away entirely: That slang died out in the nineties.
Unlike merely declining, dying out suggests total cessation.
