dethatched

Cleared dead grass

Dethatched describes a lawn that has had its thatch removed.

Thatch is the layer of dead grass, roots, and debris that accumulates between the soil and living grass blades.

When this layer gets too thick, it blocks water and nutrients.

A dethatched lawn has been raked or mechanically processed to clear this buildup: The yard looked rough right after we dethatched it, but it recovered beautifully.
