demo disc
Promotional software preview
A demo disc is a promotional disc—originally CD or DVD, now often digital—containing sample content to showcase games, software, music, or hardware capabilities.
Demo discs were commonly bundled with gaming magazines or new consoles in the 1990s and 2000s: I played that game for the first time on a PlayStation demo disc.
They let users try before buying.
