demilitarising
Stripping military presence
Demilitarising is removing military forces, weapons, or fortifications from an area.
A demilitarised zone is territory where military activity is prohibited, often serving as a buffer between hostile nations: the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea.
The word can also describe reducing a country's military capacity after war.
