degum

Strip adhesive residue

To degum is to remove gum or gummy substances from something.

The term appears most often in textile and silk processing, where raw fibers are treated to strip away natural gums that make them stiff: The silk must be degummed before dyeing.

It also applies to refining oils and other industrial processes where sticky residues need removal.
