defense line
Fortified protective position
A defense line is a position or barrier established to resist attack, whether military fortifications along a border or players positioned to protect a goal.
The term extends to any organized resistance: The company's first defense line against hackers is employee training.
In sports, it often refers collectively to defensive players: Their defense line held strong all season.
