debt slave
Works off obligation
A debt slave is someone bound to work for a creditor until a debt is repaid—a practice found throughout history and still occurring in parts of the world today.
More loosely, the term describes anyone trapped by financial obligations: Between the mortgage, student loans, and credit cards, I'm basically a debt slave.
The figurative use often carries political overtones, suggesting systemic exploitation rather than personal misfortune.
