damper pedal
Piano's resonance lever
The damper pedal is the rightmost pedal on a piano, which lifts the dampers off the strings so notes continue to ring after keys are released.
This creates a sustained, blended sound and is essential to most piano music.
Also called the sustain pedal: She held the damper pedal through the final chord.
