damasks

Reversible woven textiles

Damasks is the plural of damask, a lustrous fabric with a pattern woven into it rather than printed on top.

The weave creates designs visible through contrasting light and shadow.

Damask originally came from Damascus and traditionally appears in table linens, upholstery, and drapery: The dining room featured rich damasks in deep burgundy.

The word also names a variety of rose.
