counted out
Knocked out officially
Counted out describes someone eliminated from consideration or dismissed as unlikely to succeed.
A boxer knocked down for a ten-count is counted out—the match is over.
The phrase extends to anyone written off prematurely: Don't count me out yet.
To be counted out of something is to be excluded from participation: Count me out of that scheme.
