vulture capitalist

Corporate carrion feeder

A vulture capitalist is an investor who profits from distressed companies or assets, swooping in when businesses are failing to buy them cheaply, extract value, and often leave little behind.

The term is deliberately pejorative, playing on "venture capitalist" while evoking the scavenging bird: Vulture capitalists picked apart the bankrupt retailer, selling off its real estate while laying off thousands.
