corn shucking

Removing corn husks

Corn shucking is the removal of husks from ears of corn.

The term also refers to a communal gathering where neighbors help process a harvest, a rural American tradition that combined labor with socializing: The whole county came out for the corn shucking.

Such events were common before mechanized farming.
