concertino
Brief orchestral showcase
A concertino is the smaller group of soloists in a concerto grosso, contrasted with the full orchestra (the ripieno).
The term also refers to a short, light concerto—typically a single movement or abbreviated form: The composer wrote a concertino for clarinet and strings.
In some accordion and bandoneon designs, the concertino is the treble section with melody buttons.
