comptroller
Chief accounting officer
A comptroller is an officer who oversees financial accounts and audits expenditures, typically in government or large organizations.
The word is a variant of controller with the same meaning—the spelling arose from a false association with the French word *compte* (account).
Pronounced identically to controller: the state comptroller, comptroller of the currency.
