commercial strips
Retail road developments
Commercial strips are stretches of road lined with businesses—gas stations, fast food restaurants, car dealerships, strip malls.
The term often carries a negative connotation, suggesting ugly, car-dependent development lacking pedestrian appeal: The commercial strip outside town is nothing but chain stores and parking lots.
Also called strip development or ribbon development.
