coming to life

Stirring into existence

Coming to life describes the moment when something inanimate begins to move, function, or show signs of vitality.

The phrase applies literally to fictional scenarios where statues or puppets become animate, but more commonly appears in figurative contexts: a party comes to life when guests arrive and energy builds, or a character in a novel comes to life through vivid writing.

The expression can also describe someone waking up or becoming alert after sluggishness.
