A comedo is a clogged hair follicle in the skin—the medical term for what most people call a blackhead or whitehead.
An open comedo (blackhead) has a dark surface from oxidized debris; a closed comedo (whitehead) remains skin-colored.
The plural is comedones or comedos.
The dermatologist extracted several comedones from her chin.
