comedic drama

Comedic drama, also called dramedy, blends serious storytelling with humor, allowing lighter moments to coexist with weighty themes.

Unlike pure comedy, the laughs serve the emotional stakes rather than undermining them; unlike pure drama, levity provides relief and often deeper insight into characters.

The form has become especially common in television, where shows like *Orange Is the New Black* or *Fleabag* balance grief, trauma, and social commentary with genuine wit.

The film was a comedic drama about a dysfunctional family reuniting for their father's funeral.
