color channel
RGB component stream
A color channel is one layer of color information in a digital image.
Most images use three channels—red, green, and blue—that combine to produce the full spectrum of visible colors.
Image editing software lets you manipulate channels individually: Boosting the red channel gave the sunset more warmth.
Some formats include a fourth channel for transparency (alpha channel).
