code monkeys

Keyboard-bound coders

Code monkeys are programmers, especially those who do routine or repetitive coding work without much creative input.

The term can be self-deprecating among developers or dismissive when used by others: Management treats us like code monkeys—just churning out whatever they ask for.

It suggests grinding out code rather than engineering elegant solutions.
