civic trust
Faith in government
Civic trust is the confidence citizens place in public institutions, government, and fellow community members.
It reflects belief that shared systems will function fairly and that others will act in good faith for collective benefit.
Declining civic trust often correlates with political polarization and institutional dysfunction: Civic trust has eroded since the 1960s.
The term also names organizations that preserve historic sites or public spaces.
