church plant

New faith community

A church plant is a new congregation established in an area where one didn't previously exist, typically sponsored by an existing church or denomination.

The term treats the new church as something cultivated and grown: They're starting a church plant in the suburbs.

The process itself is called church planting, and those who lead such efforts are church planters.
