chronic hepatitis
Long-term liver disease
Chronic hepatitis is long-term inflammation of the liver, typically lasting six months or more.
The condition may result from viral infection (hepatitis B or C), autoimmune disorders, alcohol abuse, or certain medications.
Unlike acute hepatitis, which resolves relatively quickly, chronic hepatitis can progress to cirrhosis or liver failure if untreated: She was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C after routine blood work.
