chronic depression
Long-term low mood
Chronic depression is a persistent form of depression lasting years rather than weeks or months.
Unlike episodic depression that comes and goes, chronic depression maintains a continuous low mood that becomes the baseline: She's lived with chronic depression since her twenties.
The clinical term is dysthymia or persistent depressive disorder, though chronic depression remains the common phrase.
