cheap heat
Lazy villain tactics
Cheap heat is a wrestling term for the easy way to get a crowd reaction—usually booing—by insulting the local sports team, mocking the city, or using other low-effort provocations.
The term has spread beyond wrestling to describe any lazy attempt to generate strong audience response: That comedian's jokes about the mayor were pure cheap heat.
The implication is that the reaction wasn't earned through skill or craft.
