chamber ensemble

Small classical group

A chamber ensemble is a small group of musicians, typically between two and nine players, performing instrumental music with one player per part.

Unlike orchestras, chamber ensembles have no conductor—players coordinate directly with each other.

The term covers string quartets, piano trios, wind quintets, and similar formations: The chamber ensemble performed Mozart in the library's recital hall.
