Center hall describes a floor plan where the front door opens into a hallway running through the middle of the house, with rooms arranged symmetrically on either side.
The layout is traditional in American colonial architecture and remains common in suburban homes: a center hall colonial with four bedrooms.
The hall typically leads to a staircase at the back.
