cap toss
Commencement ceremony climax
A cap toss is the celebratory throwing of caps into the air, most associated with graduation ceremonies and military academy commencements.
Graduates toss their mortarboards or uniform caps skyward in unison at the ceremony's conclusion: The cap toss marked the end of four years at West Point.
The gesture signals completion and collective joy.
