Camera straps are bands worn around the neck or wrist to secure a camera and prevent dropping it.
Neck straps distribute weight across the shoulders for heavier cameras, while wrist straps keep compact cameras tethered during handheld shooting.
Some photographers swap factory straps for aftermarket versions with better padding or quick-release mechanisms: I upgraded to a leather camera strap that doesn't dig into my neck.
