caller ID fraud
Faked phone identity
Caller ID fraud is the practice of deliberately falsifying the information transmitted to a recipient's caller ID display, making a call appear to come from a different number than it actually does.
Scammers use this technique to impersonate banks, government agencies, or local numbers, increasing the likelihood that targets will answer.
